MMR Vaccination - FACTS
1- The Measles/ Mumps/ Rubella (MMR) vaccine prevents three serious and deadly diseases - measles, mumps and rubella.
2- Nearly all children who get the MMR vaccine will have no side effects at all.
3- Of those children who have side effects, most will have only a mild reaction, such as soreness or swelling where the injection was given, mild rash, mild fever and stiffness or swelling in joints.
4- Because signs of autism may appear at around the same time children receive the MMR vaccine, some parents may worry that the vaccine causes autism.
5- Carefully performed scientific studies have found no relationship between MMR vaccine and autism. 6-Your child’s chance of being harmed by these diseases is far greater than any chance of being harmed by the vaccine. That is why all healthcare authorities around the world recommend the MMR vaccination.
Paediatricians at the Prince Clinic recommend against single MMR vaccinations as it puts your child and the community at risk. There is currently a ban imposed by the UK government on the import of single Mumps vaccine amid safety concerns.
We are, therefore, recommending to parents - who have already vaccinated their child with single Measles and single Rubella - that they give them an MMR (triple) rather than leaving their child at risk of contracting Mumps. Mumps infection may cause brain dammage and fertility problems in boys.
